I spent a day museum-going the other week. First I stopped by the Baltimore Museum of Art. Their sculpture garden which holds a fabulous Calder is the perfect city escape. Sitting on a garden bench, I watched the other visitors and contemplated the sculpture pieces around me. Inside the museum, I visited the early Renaissance works. A miniscule Durer print of the Crucifiction was hung with other pieces of the same subject on a wall in the modern area. It was quite a treat. After the BMA, I stopped at the Walters. The Walters has an amazing collection of ancient art. Egyptian, Islamic, Greek, Roman. Each time I visit the galleries it is as if I am arriving with a new set of eyes. There is so much to see in these pieces from thousands of years ago. My own painting has been on hold. There are a few ideas floating around in my mind, but it is often difficult for me to sit down with a blank canvas. Inspiration will resurface soon, I hope.
