Morandi

There is something magical about Morandi. His palette, which at first appears limited, is really rather varied and unique.
The bottles do not feel like only bottles. They seem to be active, breathing, thinking. They recede in space yet they are right there in front of you, taking you in, inquiring about you. They are direct. Even in your face. You are forced to question them and them you.

virgin mary

Two virgin mary s housed at the Princeton Art Museum in Princeton NJ. The first vm reacts a bit fearfully as she takes part in the annunciation. The second vm s head and neck create such a unique shape of their own. She is very angular and somewhat flat. She appears to be content sitting with her son, with a mix of happiness and sadness.
